Postpartum depression and anxiety can affect anyone, regardless of social, financial, or cultural background. Many women experiencing symptoms don’t express concern to their doctors, or even to those close to them.

This may be related to the stories we all her in the news- the horrid stories of women doing the worst imaginable to their children. The problem with that is that these cases are more likely to be postpartum psychosis rather than depression or anxiety.

If you’re feeling sad, disconnected, or fearful, please say something to your doctor. If you know someone who may benefit from help, suggest kindly that they speak to their doctor. Don’t be afraid to anger them- they may actually welcome the concern and validation of their feelings and experiences.
